Imagine a picture perfect backdrop complete with white sand beaches, turquoise water, and colonial architecture. In front of this amazing scene is you and your partner making the decision to spend the rest of your lives together. Whether you have been thinking about it for weeks, months or years you want to make sure that this moment will be remembered, and where better to remember it than beautiful Mexico!

Since poping THE Question, is a life defining experience here are a couple of ideas we came up with make your moment shine in Mexico:

suggestion one: A romatic dinner at a special location which can be on the resort property or in town. To arrange this just ask for the help of your hotel concierge. The hotel concierge can also arrange for a quiet romantic candlelight dinner for two in a beautiful spot at the resort. What about a hot air balloon ride? Looking for an adventure proposal? You could book a fun activity that you both enjoy; just let the vendor know in advance and they can take you to a special location with an amazing view where you can present the ring.

When making arrangments for outdoor activities its crucial to keep in mind the various seasons of mexico.
Dry Season (November to April) – arid and warm weather with little rain. While November is the most ideal month in the Yucatan; November till January are the prime months for fewer winter storms in Cancun and Cozumel. Holidays are very popular, more families with children and higher prices
Rainy Season (May to October) – is the Mexican weather season when the risk of tropical storms and hurricanes are higher. Even though rain can put a soaker on any Mexican holiday, lower temperatures due to sporadic rain storms can make for breezy, cooler sightseeing conditions. Also, many hotels have a hurricane policy.
Humid Season (May to July) – during this time the Mexican weather temperatures can be unbearably hot and sticky due to the high humidity, but temperatures average in the mid 80’s all year.
High Season (end of December to Easter) – Mexico’s high season boasts calm, warm weather, perfect for snorkeling, diving, and fishing – no wonder the Yucatan and Cancun are very popular.
Low Season (after Easter till mid-December) – during Mexico’s low season prices drop 20% to 50%. However, European visitors have spurred a high season over the summer months when hotel rates are comparable to those of winter’s high season.

Suggestion two: plan an adventourous trip scuba diving, or plane tour of the beach. For those that truly live for danger, there is also the option to skydive and “take the plunge” into your future together!

While considering all locations, and options there are some deatils about marriage abroad that you’ll want to keep in mind. To get started you need to know the marriage license requirements in Mexico. Those include:

  • Waiting Period in Mexico: There is a waiting period of two to three days in Mexico. It varies from state to state. Plan extra time for getting the paperwork all arranged. It generally takes at least 3 business days to have your paperwork and documents processed (holidays and weekends do not count).
  • Previous Marriages: If you have been divorced, you need to wait a year before applying for a marriage license. You will also need a certified copy of your divorce decree or certified copy of death certificate of deceased spouse.
  • Tests: A blood test for RPR, and HIV and Thorax (chest) X-rays are required in Mexico. It is recommended that these tests be done in Mexico two days prior to your wedding. Cost of the tests average $125 per person.
  • Witnesses: You need two to four witnesses over the age of 18. Your witnesses also need to provide identification. Some areas of Mexico may require that two of the witnesses be from your home country. The number of witnesses required depends on the location of your wedding.
  • Fees to get married in Mexico: It will cost you approximately $200 US to get married in Mexico.
  • The wedding coordinator will go over all of the information that you need to know and how to go about getting this completed before the wedding ceremony. To save money, go to the Justice of the Peace in your home town and get married. Then coordinate a renewal of the vows in Mexico. It is the same process of a wedding ceremony but saves you the time and money of actually getting legally married in Mexico.

When booking a destination wedding make sure you look at which resorts offers the better discounts or promotions. The Real Resorts, Palace properties, El Dorado, Barceló and many others offers their own each individual wedding package. With some of these resorts they offer complimentary basic wedding package if you book 5 rooms or more at a 3 night minimum stay or if the Bride and Groom book 7 nights or longer in a junior suite category or higher (depending on the resort requirements). However in most cases the interline rates DO NOT qualify for complimentary wedding package but based on availability you may get upgrade to the next room category. Depending on which resort you pick it may be beneficial to book at the retail rate to qualify for those other discounts so they can be applied to the wedding.  When guests of the bride and groom book their travel packages with certain tour operators to attend a destination wedding, you instantly receive a $25 bonus per booking which can be used as a gift toward the bride and groom’s reservation. The bride and groom will also receive a room amenity and one FREE round trip airfare with 25 guests and FREE airfare for two with 50 guests booked.

There are many other resort options that you can work with throughout Mexico. The most popular destinations would be Cancun, Riviera Maya, Playa Del Carmen, Cabo San Lucas, and Puerto Vallarta. One of the most popular and highly recommended would be any of the El Dorado properties or the Real Resorts in Playa del Carmen and the Mayan Riviera area. They are all rated as 5 star resorts, they are all-inclusive and most are for Adults only! If you are looking for family oriented destination the Barceló resorts have amazing kids’ programs and fun for all generations.
