Atlanta’s Hartsfield Airport is admittedly one of the world’s busiest airport with, it seems, all of the Southeast Air roads leading through there. Sometimes it can even feel like twice and three times.
For those on standby, it can even seem a little like a ghost town after 9 pm. The restaurants seem to close up shop. For those lucky enough to clear a list and still can enjoy a seated meal, we feature a fantastic option this month. It’s worth the trek. Just be sure and give yourself a few minutes to enjoy some of the South’s delicacies with a twist.
The Lucky Luxury – One Flew South
Despite Chef Duane Nutter recently leaving, repeat diners report no change in the great tasting “Southernational” menu now helmed by Nutter apprentice Jared Hall. Hall rejoined the restaurant and patrons rave at the top-notch food, value, and service.
Their menu changes with the seasons, but a sample menu can be downloaded here. Entrees such as Coriander & Fennel Crusted Swordfish come with a reasonable price of $28, The food mostly has a southern flair, but an alternative sushi menu features innovations and can pair nicely with Sake.
Speaking of cocktails, the extensive drink menu serves as an homage to the 1920’s Aeromarine Airways excursions for the wealthy from Miami to Nassau to circumvent Prohibition laws. They sport categories like Light Traveler featuring Bellinis – Peach (of course, being in Georgia) The Classic Traveler including Singapore Slings and Old Fashions. Then out come the Innovative Travelers: The Scottish Kilt and the Cab Calloway, and finally, the Determined Traveler category, showcasing Caribbean Grog and, my personal favorite, the Bartenders Choice. When in Rome, and all that. Who better to make you a great drink than a mixologist? If liquor isn’t your thing, they feature an astonishingly great wine list, including a bevy of beer, and the Sake mentioned above.
Located on Concourse E, you won’t need an International ticket to get there – just a little extra time if you’re planning on hoofing it back to a gate elsewhere. They even have an exceptionally prepared to-go selection.
