When you nonrev, parking can become both an issue and an additional expense. It’s one thing if you are an airline employee with airport parking rights so you can park in the employee lot. It is a whole other issue if you are an employee who does not work at the airport and thus does not have airport parking privileges. If you are an airline retiree or parent or the spouse of an employee you also have no airport parking privileges.
So when you travel nonrev what are your options?
1) Drive and park at the airport or at an off-airport location and pay the daily rate which in some cases can be $20 a day or more! Not a great option.
2) Take something like Super Shuttle to and from the airport. My problem with Super Shuttle is they make multiple stops going and coming so my pickup at home might be as much as 4 hours before my flight leaves and I only live 15 minutes from the airport.
3) Find a friend to take you to the airport and pick you up when you come back. Might work find for the first trip or two but if you travel a lot you will have to keep rotating your friends for this service. Cheap but you may run out of friends quickly, especially if you have flights very early or very late.
Then there is a 4th option that you might not know of….. GreenBeeParking.com. GreenBee is relatively new so they might not yet be in your city. GreenBee works with airport area hotels and let’s you, for a fee, park in the hotel’s parking lot, take the hotel shuttle to and from the airport for a fee well below what you would pay at the airport or at one of the off-site locations.
Here is a couple of examples of the savings. Rates shown are per day.
